Projects and experiments
Things I've made, maintained, contributed to, and tried. Some are useful tools, some are creative experiments, and some never quite became what I imagined.
This is a map into the garden, not a list of currently maintained services. Some of the linked pages haven't been planted yet.
Wikipedia and Wikidata
- WP1 - Wikipedia article assessments, selections, and offline collections. I rewrote the bot and portal in 2018 and have been maintaining it since.
- Projo - Finding useful Wikipedia editing and review work, as well as New Pages Patrol tools.
- findlinkfast - Finding unlinked mentions and reviewing proposed Wikipedia links. It's a rewrite of Edward Betts's find link.
- linkrecnext - Link recommendations from other language editions. My fork of Martin Gerlach's tool.
- CiteWright - Turning Wikipedia citation templates into Wikidata references. A Wikipedia "user script".
- langpow - Faster language selection for monolingual-text values on Wikidata. Another "user script".
- linkdata - Reusable datasets about Wikipedia's link graph.
- Global Selection Picker - A portable format and picker for lists of Wikimedia pages. Used by projo, findlinkfast and linkrecnext. And hopefully soon to be used by WP1
- Wikipedia event calendar script - Adding Wikipedia events to a personal calendar. Another "user script".
- Pride article suggestions - Preparing article worklists about LGBTQ publications and media. This was the original inspiration that became projo.
Music and publishing
- Danger Third Rail - My recording project, songs, and releases. My "band", but it's only me.
- The song and demo archive - Songs, demos, and the software behind
songs.travisbriggs.com. - Null Rail - AI-generated music experiments along with their alternate versions and process notes.
- Danger Third Rail Radio - My radio station! Broadcasting all my songs on [songs.travisbriggs.com](https://songs.travisbriggs.com] with Godot-generated visuals.
- Rainfall - Music-site publishing software that grew out of my own song archive. Deprecated.
- Best Albums in the Universe - A curated album collection and its publishing tools.
Instruments and audio experiments
- Lambda Sequencer - A modular browser MIDI sequencer with patch cables and portable patches.
- arpsplit - A Max for Live device that distributes incoming notes across MIDI channels.
- Remapperator - A Max for Live MIDI-remapping utility.
- Web LPD8 - A browser-based editor for an Akai LPD8 MIDI controller.
- Vape Station - A JUCE synthesizer prototype.
- Infinite Radio - Experiments with phrase-aligned jumps, indefinite playback, and audio mashups.
- Neural Noise - Earlier machine-learning experiments generating music from ABC notation. Pre-dates LLMs, using a technique called a chaRNN (Character Recurrent Neural Network).
Art and playful websites
- Wobblewerk - A constrained sketching instrument with procedural marks and opinionated palettes. Based on my own sketches. Vibe coded.
- Digital artwork gallery - Browser animations and artwork, sometimes accompanied by original music. These all pre-date LLMs by about a decade and were coded from scratch (and it shows!)
- vxstory - A collection of parameterized generative-video models built with Godot. Vibe coded.
- Dada Quest - My first major vibe coded project. A text adventure with "unlimited possibilites", Dungeons and Dragons style. Uses an LLM storyteller.
- Endless Yard Sale - A site that I originally coded from hand that used Gemini 2 to classify images and generate keywords to search for related items. I'm an eBay affiliate with this one technically.
- Two Truths and a Lie: Billboard Edition - Guessing which tech billboard is fictional.
- RGB Of Life - Twenty-four simultaneous Games of Life combined into RGB colors. Made over a decade ago with lots of help from my friend Sagar.
- Slop Culture and Slopulate - Generative-art apparel, curation, and print-on-demand software. https://theslopculture.com.
AI and generative experiments
- Sudomake Friends - Imaginary AI friends with personalities and schedules, interacting through Telegram.
- Robagonist - Two language models debating a statement, with room to intervene.
- ZIM-N-WARC-GPT - A fork of WARC-GPT adding ZIM files as material for retrieval-augmented generation. This never really worked.
- Wallpaper generator - Generating and curating AI-image wallpaper candidates.
Games and game systems
- Q Poker - An online poker prototype and experiments with poker bots.
- Video-poker trainer - Exploring video-poker decisions and strategy.
- Crate Diggers - A music party game played through Delta Chat.
- Don't Wordle solver - Optimizing guesses for a game where the usual Wordle objective is reversed.
- Ruby Tanbo - An implementation of the strategy game Tanbo, including a computer opponent. This was my first ever project in Ruby!
- Butterfly Catcher - An early Pygame learning project. My first and only.
- Whiskeyball - The game-loop software I wrote for a physical skee-ball-like game. Part of my cocktail robotics adventures!
- Tiny Nomic - An online game about changing its own rules. Played through GitHub.
- Scriptslash - An API-only game experiment that became more infrastructure than game.
- Invertavera - A Music Hack Day game about spotting authentic artist biographies.
Tools and the small web
- Gemdown - Javascript library for converting Markdown into Gemini Gemtext.
- This digital garden - The publishing system, local CMS, and connected notes behind this site.
- 0bt - A file-sharing implementation combining HTTP downloads, torrents, and magnet links.
- ismygem.online - A Gemini uptime-monitoring project.
- Actomasto - Project suggestions, personal briefings, and Mastodon drafts from development activity; it does not publish posts.
- Court Version Scraper - Tracking court ECF software versions from PACER listings.
- Google Books sync - Moving books from Calibre to Google Play Books and Amazon Kindle.
Public knowledge and community
- Chronoscope - A zoomable human-history timeline built from Wikidata. A project with a student I was tutoring.
- ArtChart - Mapping the locations of artworks, with companion Wikipedia data tooling. Hand coded, never really looked right.
- San Francisco 311 Index - A civic-data satire using neighborhood complaint rates.
- Kiwix - My contributions to offline knowledge, including mwoffliner.
- Google Summer of Code mentoring - Helping contributors work on Wikimedia and offline-knowledge software.
- Noisebridge programming classes - Teaching Python and developing a programming study-group curriculum.
- Wiki Bay Area - Wikimedia community organizing, I'm on the board.
Writing and developed ideas
- Poetry and fiction fragments - The existing collection of poems and short-fiction beginnings.
- Duality and Taper experiments - Small HTML art and writing experiments.
- NaNoGenMo experiments - Code for generating fiction, rather than a claim to a finished novel. This predates LLMs people!
- Space Base Race - A multiplayer game concept about exploration versus exploitation.
- Factorio as a MUD - An unrealized text-based factory-game idea and an initial setup experiment.
- Super Progress Bar Pro - An idle-game idea.
The ideas belong here too. A project doesn't have to be finished, useful, or still running to have an interesting story.
